Very interesting figures, and i suspect your hypothesise are most likely correct.

And @Unka - I think you were trying to make a point without actually grasping the numbers here and (I think personally) misinterpreting this post as sensational where it is infact honest and balanced.

Actually, you can't simply add all of the dollars per visitor for Windows. You have to go back to the raw numbers and add up all of the visitors using Windows and the dollars donated by them and calculate dollars per visitor. When I do this, we find the following:

Mac (all versions): $2.53 per visitor
Windows (all versions): $0.91 per visitor

I broke it down by version since I thought there were interesting trends within the versions, notably the difference between XP and Vista users. So even if we ignore OS version, Mac users are still more generous.

The same applies to browsers. If you look at all versions of browsers (so all Safari, all Firefox, and all IE), the following results appear:

Safari: $3.19 per visitor
Firefox: $1.19 per visitor
IE: $0.88 per visitor

So while I certain respect your view that sensational postings such as this may not be good for the Mac community/image, the numbers are accurate and truthful.

Well, being a user of both OS X *and* Win XP, let me point out that Windows user, as a whole, gave $3.95 dollars per visitor. Breaking it down by Windows version is disingenuous at best and continues to portray OS X users as manipulative. It makes us look bad and leaves the impression that our operating system can only compare to Windows through deception.

OS X is a great OS and these kind of ill-thought attempts to portray our user base as "better" than user of other OSes only turns people off to the Mac and OS X and our user community..
